FENIK Celebrates Massive Experts Only Release "Utopia"
FENIK celebrates "Utopia," a collaboration with Walker & Royce, on Experts Only, inspired by the idea that a utopia, by definition, can't exist without its opposite. One of the label's youngest signings and its first Nashville artist, he arrives already backed by Dom Dolla, John Summit, SIDEPIECE and Valentino Khan. His Spotlight Mix is packed with IDs, remixes and unreleased collabs, 68 minutes of driving tech-inspired grooves.
Hey FENIK, thanks for being with us to celebrate the release of "Utopia" alongside Walker & Royce on Experts Only! What does this release mean to you, especially as one of the youngest artists and the first Nashville-based producer to release on the label?
It really means a lot to me. I've been making music for eight years now. When I made my debut as FENIK in 2024, I started over from scratch. It felt like I had an even larger mountain in front of me, starting from nothing again, so to be able to release on such a major label with artists that I've looked up to for so long definitely feels like a great accomplishment.

Being the first artist from Nashville to release on Experts Only also means a lot to me because this city has given me so much over the past few years. The electronic music scene here really is incredible, and I want more people to know about it and its community.
You first connected with Walker & Royce two years ago when they released your breakout track on RDA Records. How did that relationship eventually lead to "Utopia"?
Ever since I released my first song on RDA, Walker & Royce have been so supportive of me and my career. I have been sending them all my unreleased music ever since my RDA debut, and when this idea came along, I knew it was finally the perfect track to send over, with hopes of it becoming a collab.

You were the one who sent the initial idea for "Utopia" to Walker & Royce. What made you feel they were the right artists to bring the track to life?
My original idea had a similar feel to their vibe, and I really thought they would relate to the story and theme behind the vocals, and then they just took the track to a whole new level.

You've described the idea behind the track as one of the most valuable lessons you've learned so far. How has that lesson shaped you, both personally and as an artist?
While I was in university, I took a course called "Utopian and Dystopian Literature." The point of the class was to show the similarities between the two and how a utopia is a concept, not something that can actually exist. In order to have one, we would lose the traits that make us human.

It's really shaped me as a person and artist because it helps bring me back to the fact that the grass isn't always greener. Even if something looks perfect on paper, it may have a darker reality behind it that you don't realize until you are in it.
The track combines that deeper, introspective message with your signature club-driven sound. How did you translate such a personal concept into something that works on the dancefloor?
I started with the vocals and made these synths around it, which give this euphoric feel that I wanted to use to represent a utopia. Following that, I focused on giving the drop more of this dark, dance floor-driven sound, which really brings together the hidden flaws behind a utopia and emphasizes the message that a perfect utopia actually has many hidden, darker sides to it as well.

You've gone from being part of Nashville's emerging electronic scene to having your music played and supported by artists around the world. How important is Nashville to your identity as a producer and DJ?
This city has been the place where I've really found myself and grown into my identity as an artist. I have built some of the best relationships with other creatives and people behind the scenes here who have done so much for my career. I don't think there is a better city for a young producer, who wants to be able to showcase themselves early on in their career, than Nashville.

Let's dive into your Spotlight Mix. What did you want to showcase through the mix, and how does it represent where you are creatively right now?
In this mix, I'm aiming for you to recognize where I'm going to be taking my sound going forward. Creatively, right now, I'm very into more grungy tracks as well as more mainstage melodic tracks, so I wanted to showcase both sides of that and what you can expect when you come to a FENIK set.

With "Utopia" marking another major step in your career, what's next for FENIK? Can you give us a glimpse of what you're working on and what we can expect from you in the coming months?
I have so many unreleased songs right now, so I'm working on getting the music out to everyone. I already have two more tracks scheduled to come out this year, potentially more as well, and will be hitting the road for some shows starting at the beginning of September. I'm excited to continue showcasing my artist project and using my music as a platform to relate to and connect with people all over the world.
