Mike Williams Exclusive Mix
As he readies for his Tomorrowland performance on the Spinnin’ Sessions stage later this month, Mike Williams has crafted an energetic and groovy Exclusive Mix. The rising Dutch star has been turning out many top quality productions this year including “Bambini,” “Don’t Hurt” ft. Brēzy, and his just released super collab “Let’s Go” with Lucas & Steve and Curbi. With tantalizing Brooks and Tom & Jame collaborations on the horizon, there was lots of music to talk about in his story!
How did you approach your Exclusive Mix and how does it compare to your live sets?
I tried to make a mix that’s pretty close to my live sets. I like to play energetic, but still play some groovy tracks!
Can you highlight three tracks included in your mix and what makes them stand out to you?
1. Dave Winnel – “Souljacker.” I think this track is super catchy and original! Love it!
2. Throttle – “Baddest Behavior.” Brand new track from Throttle. I remember he played it at my home studio and I loved it immediately.
3. Fox Stevenson – “Arigatou.” Fox is known for his weird but super cool house tracks. This one proves it once again!
At the end of June your remix of R3HAB’s “Trouble” dropped. What elements of the original did you want to preserve in your remix and how do you feel you’ve made the track your own?
That’s right! I really liked the vocal and how he made the production around the vocal so I didn’t want to change the tempo or anything on that part. The break is still 105 BPM, but the drop is 126, and that’s where the Mike Williams sound is coming in.
How did the monster collab between you, Lucas & Steve and Curbi come about? Did you find it difficult at all having four guys working on the track?
It was difficult but we had so much fun! We were in the studio together about five times and we really took a lot of time and effort to get every signature sound in this track and I think the result is great!
You’ve got a big ID floating around the site and we’ve seen some clips on social media – what can you tell us about your collab with Brooks?!
Yes! The collaboration with Brooks is coming really soon. We finished it a couple of weeks ago and I already play it in every set! I’m really curious to hear people’s opinions on this one!
And another ID on the site is your collab with Tom & Jame. How has that track been going down in your sets? What did you like most about working with those guys?
Yes! This collaboration is going to be released soon also. I haven’t played it a lot in my sets yet, but it’s super energetic! It was cool to work with them, we had a lot of fun and they are incredibly good producers!
What do you think your favorite show of the summer thus far has been and why?
I just did a show in Portugal, which was insane! RFM Somnii Festival was one of the highlights so far this year. But I can’t wait for Tomorrowland and Creamfields as well!
You’re playing Tomorrowland this year on the Spinnin’ Sessions stage! Can you talk a little bit about what being a part of the Spinnin’ crew and playing Tomorrowland means to you?
Yess! Can’t wait for that one. Being part of the Spinnin’ crew feels good! They’ve helped me a lot and it feels really good to have a big team behind you.
Make sure to check out Mike Williams on the Spinnin' Sessions stage Friday, July 28th from 15:00-16:00, weekend 2 of Tomorrowland.
