R-Wan Delivers With His New "Secret"
Amidst a busy US tour we took some time to talk with R-Wan to celebrate his new single. Having already hit #1 on the iTunes Pop Charts, as well as received plays by David Guetta, Nicky Romero, Maurice West, and Yves V, the response to “Secret” has been massive. We talked about his drive to continue evolving as a producer as well as how this similar mindset plays into his DJ sets!
R-Wan, thanks for stopping in with us to celebrate your new single “Secret”! Tell us what was the initial inspiration/sketch like for the track?
My pleasure, I started working on this track 18 months ago and had many versions before releasing this one. In the build up, I tried many vocals and various drops before I was fully happy with the result. I was looking for a balance between a club and radio friendly record and I think this version delivers the best of both.
At what point in the production process did Lukas get involved with his vocal? What made you feel that his voice was the right fit for the production and/or how did the vocal inspire the production?
As touched on above, I tried many vocalists before Lukas and feel that he complemented the single best. The results speak for themselves.
What do you like most about Lukas’s voice?
I like Lukas's accent and the overall energy of his vocal delivery.
“Secret” represents a new exploration for you in a future house sound. Tell us some more about expanding your production catalog and what we may hear from you in the future.
Like I've always believed, electronic music should not be limited by one sound or genre and I aim to consistently evolve. My next release will be more urban, with a special legend – stay tuned.
This month “Secret” also hit #1 on the iTunes pop charts! What did that accomplishment mean to you?
That's now my second #1! It reflects what I've tried and succeeded to build since I started my label Restricted. I'm really happy with the team around me and we keep pushing to get more from every release.
Currently you’re on tour in the US! How’s that going?
Miami (pictured below) is one of my favourite places in the world. I have a residency five Tuesdays per year and it's always sold out. I hope for this coming year to also be on some big festival lineups too.
Looking into your sets at the moment on this US tour, what are two or three must play tracks or artists?
The US market is turned onto urban music and because I'm an open format DJ, I can play everything and anything. I like to unleash an electronic weapon between two hip hop songs, like my track “Holy Drums,” a cut from Mastiksoul and some special Drake bootlegs.
Looking ahead to the winter, how is the coming season shaping up for you?
I'm actually on my US Tour and pretty consistently touring. I'll take a break in January to finalise three releases and also take time to stay a bit in Paris, my hometown.
