DVBBS Exclusive Mix
DVBBS are heating up as we head towards summer 2019! They’ve just dropped a new club tested remix for Steve Aoki’s collaboration with Monsta X “Play It Cool,” and are seeing big returns on their crossover hit “GOMF” ft. BRIDGE. Big users of 1001Tracklists themselves, the Canadian duo lined up an extra special Exclusive Mix to lift your mood and raise the energy as we launch into June!
Alex, Chris, thanks for joining us today! How’s your year been going thus far and what have been some highlights?
Thanks for having us, we’ve been a big fans of 1001 for a long time so this is special for us as well! The year’s been going great – thanks for asking! Honestly this is the first time in six years that we decided to take off four consecutive months to finish a body of work that we could possibly call our debut album and we are 90% finished!
You really brought it in your Exclusive Mix! Can you highlight three tracks that you included and why they stand out to you?
Well it would be only fitting to highlight and put a star next to the opening extended mix of our new song “GOMF.” The song just hit the Viral Top 50 charts this morning and there is a massive remix in the works from one of the legends ;)
The second would have to be the new Fisher tune... “You Little Beauty” is a jam and I feel like “GOMF” and this record are going to stand out this summer all over the world.
Then the third is... a nice ID that we are giving a first time world premiere in our 1001Tracklists Exclusive Mix! Hope that you guys like it!
Last week you dropped a massive new remix for Steve Aoki! What elements of the original did you want to preserve in your take and how do you feel that you’ve made “Play It Cool” your own?
We kept the structure and vocal formula the same and just added production on this super pre hook/build part that almost is like a party starter as soon as you hear it. Our remix has a fresh new drop that has elements of some early 2014 big room DVBBS which a lot of fans were surprised to hear – we like to keep things fresh.
Your latest original “GOMF” was a huge crossover hit. Can you highlight the differences and/or similarities in your production approach with something much more downtempo like “GOMF” compared to a club friendly tune like your remix for Steve?
“GOMF” has a lot of live aspects to it, even the stand up bassline straight off the bat gives a unique touch to the record that starts mesmerizing people as soon as they hear it. Simplicity in production was a key factor for “GOMF,” letting the bassline and vocals ride as Bridge tells a story then slowly building the drums and high hats up into an infectious housey hook drop.
Meanwhile the Steve record is a heavy synth driven record with a big room drop specifically ready to play out in our live sets!
“GOMF” featured a really special music video – tell us some more about it!
Mannnn I guess this is a great time to tell you that there is one more piece to the video still to come! But long story short, one of the funniest guys and who we would consider the Jim Carrey of our generation, Casey Frey, decided to do a dance to our new record. And not only is the music explosive, but this guy's full dance created a whole movement of its own called the Olé Dance and now the whole world is dancing to it.
What’s even crazier is that it went so viral that all of our fans wrote on his social media to be in the music video, and he actually showed... Talk about the power of the internet, it’s exploding more and more by the day!
You’ve had the opportunity to work with a lot of incredible vocalists in your recent productions. Is there any singer/vocal that stands out as a favorite for each of you? Who are some vocalists that you would like to work with in the future?
Bridge was a dope one just because we’ve known him for so long, but musically we just started kicking it in the studio the last year. Other than that I (Alex) just want to get back into my own vocals again, I’m hella self conscious, but I’m starting to write some dope shit again that I’m proud of.
Got tons of future legends and next level artists already sitting in our catalogue!
The summer is almost upon us and with that the promise of big festivals! What are some tour dates that you have circled on your calendar and are particularly excited for?
Weekend Festival in Finland with Swedish House Mafia is going to be a dope one this summer, and Parookaville in Germany is always a slam fest. So many dates to be announced, but first we're just focused on having all of the music come out properly with all the right content that it deserves. We’re in this for the long haul, we will forever be a touring act.
What does the future hold for DVBBS? What are one or two goals you guys are still hoping to achieve later this year or beyond?
Drop this album and have one or two completely different sounding hits in the charts at the same time. Also we want to write/direct a movie in the near future... we did a bit of acting with Charlie Sheen recently and we’ve kind of gotten the acting bug lately hahaha. Who knows man, life is so crazy, anything crazy we put our minds to, we can make it come true. It can happen for everyone out there too if you focus and use your brain properly as a tool every single day!
