W&W Discuss New Music & Debut Club Mythic Show
Last weekend W&W unveiled their new virtual Club Mythic within their Rave Culture City and the set was out of this world! Dropping over 15 IDs, the talent duo showcased new tracks of their own, music from key Rave Culture label artists, and of course some exclusive bootlegs. It’s another exciting chapter for W&W, who continue to push boundaries and always make the wait between their sets well worth the wait with heaps of new music! Read on for an inside look at the concept, new Rave Culture music, and much more!
Willem, Ward, thanks for stopping in to celebrate the debut Club Mythic show! How’d you come up with the idea to build your own club within Rave Culture City?
We were sitting on a lot of new music both from ourselves as from our label Rave Culture, so we thought it was time for a new stream. We didn’t want to do the exact same as 20XX in the Li-Ning Arena so we thought why not create a club where we can potentially also invite other DJs to in the future.
What did you learn from the first XR stream in Rave Culture City last year, and how did you want to improve things with this latest set?
After a few green screen performances over the last year we kind of got used to it, it’s less awkward now haha! Set-wise we wanted more variety, more different genres and a blend of everything that Rave Culture stands for, and we think that kind of worked out!
You stand alone as the artists who bring the most IDs, and the most hotly anticipated IDs into your big shows. What’s the process like for your track selection for a set like this?
First of all we are super lucky that we get sent so many amazing tracks by so many great producers! We first just start collecting and keeping an eye out for great tracks in general. Then we start making mashups with vocals that we like at that moment, with some of our own vocal tracks, etc. And then of course we have to decide the flow of the set, and which track fits where, energy and key and tempo-wise.
Can you each pick out a favorite track or moment in the set and why it stands out?
It’s really hard to pick just one moment, we’re really excited about all of the new music. But some of our favourites are actually the new opening track (check it out above) that we used and our closing track haha!
As heard in your set, there is a massive collaboration between Ben Nicky x Olly James Ft. MC Stretch coming out on Rave Culture this Friday. What stands out to you about “We Are The Ravers”?
The message in the song is really strong, it really projects how we all feel, especially since last year. And besides that it’s also a massive banger!!
AXMO are becoming key figures on Rave Culture. From your collab together “Rave Love” and now with some super fresh IDs, their future looks bright! What do you like most about the guys sound and productions?
The guys are super motivated, make a LOT of music, we really have to be really picky when it comes to releases on the label, cause else we would have an AXMO release every week haha! Melodically they are really strong and they’re also great guys! So yeah, the future for AXMO looks really bright!
With shows few and far between we thought it was important to also touch on your Rave Culture stage from 808 Festival in Thailand. What was that experience like for you guys during the pandemic?
Hosting the Rave Culture stage at 808 in Thailand was really unreal. Hosting the mainstage of a festival that big alone is already super special, but doing that while everything was going on in the world was just crazy! Definitely one of the highlights of our career so far!
What can you tell us about some of the future plans for Rave Culture shows? Can we expect new editions within Club Mythic? What about plans for in person events?
We’re definitely going to do more shows at Club Mythic, but of course Club Mythic also has room for other DJs. Real events are being discussed but it really depends on how everything rolls out in the next coming months, let’s just hope for the best!!
