Mike Williams 'Get Dirty' Exclusive Mix

Over the last few weeks, Mike Williams has been making waves with his new single “Get Dirty.” Shooting up the 1001Tracklists Trending Tracks chart with a big string of DJ support pre-release, it’s another signature release for the talented Dutch DJ/producer on Musical Freedom. To celebrate he’s crafted a club ready Exclusive Mix and took some time to share more about his new release, relationship with Tiësto, daily life, and much more!
Hey Mike, thanks for joining us to celebrate your new single “Get Dirty”! The track is already shooting up the Top Trending Tracks chart on 1001 and seems like it could do some damage in a club! What was the inspiration for the track?
Thank you!! I’m glad people are listening to the track already! I really wanted to go back to the club and festival energy that I did before. Over the last 1.5 years I have seen a lot of dance producers changing their style and making more radio-friendly tracks, but for me that gives me a lot of inspiration to do the exact opposite.
How did you move from initial inspiration to the final production that we hear today? What’s one of your favorite elements in the production?
I worked on the melody first, a big festival melody that gets stuck in your head, so it had to be simple. Then the production has to be cool enough and deep enough for the club dancefloor. So I think at the end the drop lead was the thing I focused on the most.
What has it been like without dancefloors to test your records on? How has it affected you over the past year?
Difficult! I had the honor to do a couple of shows in places like Taiwan and Nepal to test some things out, but it’s difficult to know if a track fits in your set without being able to play it. Only in the studio!
This is now your eighth release with Musical Freedom! Can you reflect a bit on your relationship and growth on the label? You’ve come a long way since we talked in August 2016 about collaborating with Tiësto haha.
Yes! Crazy! Musical Freedom is one of the best dance labels in my opinion. They are super nice to work with and they know exactly how, when and where to spread your track. So it feels good to be back! Tiësto always gives me feedback and is involved with everything, which is great!

What’s been your favorite release on Musical Freedom and why?
I think my track with Tiësto, “I Want You.” That was really something special, all the shows we did together afterwards and the support we had from other DJs was just incredible.
Turning our attention to your Exclusive Mix, can you pick out two additional tracks included and let us know why they stand out to you?
“When We’re Gone” by Mesto and Justin Mylo. This track is just so well-written. The song is super emotional and the production is so on point. I love the sound it has and it works well both live and on the radio!
Tommy Jayden - “Untouchable.” One of the most talented upcoming producers nowadays! Sometimes his style reminds me of Curbi back in the days, so much power and such a tight mix. Always works to play these kinds of tracks on stage!
Take us through a day in your life right now. What’s your routine like, and how are you maintaining inspiration and creativity with your music?
I’m spending a lot of time in the studio of course, but also focusing on other things while I still can. I’m building a new office with a brand new studio, so that takes a lot of time. Also working on a new collection of my clothing brand MILLIAMS which is gonna be really sick! So I try to get inspiration from those kinds of things. It’s difficult, but hopefully I can combine everything with touring/shows again soon!
We’re confident you are missing shows just as much as we are. With an eye towards some of the good times, what were one or two of your favorite all time gigs?
Tomorrowland Mainstage and Ultra Miami Mainstage for sure!! Both were sooo cool. I was so nervous, but these two shows were on my bucket list since I was 12 or something. Dreams coming true! And hopefully I can come back again.
And as we look ahead, what’s keeping you motivated and how have you adjusted your goals for the Mike Williams project?
I think the last year has made me realize that I have to appreciate the things I already accomplished and I have to stay positive. So my mindset is different, and that will probably translate into my productions too. I’m going to make more music that I love to play live and not what people tell me to do. Show-wise I’m just gonna enjoy every single moment of it!!
