Dark Drake: Heating Up
Dark Drake is heating up! His recently released Rasalifers collab “Low5” features massive artist support from the likes of Hardwell, Afrojack, David Guetta, and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, he was just announced as a performer at Tomorrowland, and he is in the midst of starting his own label. Amidst all the exciting happenings in his world, we caught up with the Italian DJ/producer.
Can you tell us about how you came to work with Rasalifers? What was it like working together on “Low5”?
I am a longtime friends with the guys from Rasalifers so it was quite natural step for us to get together to produce some fresh beats. A few months ago, we met in my studio and we arranged the whole track together in a day. However, the finalization of the whole production took a bit longer because we worked hard in order to find the right sound design. At the end, Rasalifers took care of the mastering session.
How does it feel to see the impressive DJ support this track has received, from the likes of Hardwell, David Guetta, DVLM, and many more? Do any of the artists supporting this track stand out to you?
It is unreal! When such big names support your tracks, it makes you more confident in your work and in the way you produce music. I am really astonished by Hardwell’s support, because this is the first time that he has played a track of mine.
Can you tell us about your new label and what that will entail? How will you manage label responsibilities with touring and producing?
The new label is basically a platform in which I would like to release the new music that I am making with several artists. There will not be an A&R figure, but I be reaching out to newer artists to release tracks on my label. Right now, I can handle everything quite well. I have to work 24/7 to properly manage all of the things that I am involved in, but I like to have everything under my control.
Are there any upcoming productions that you can tell us about, either for your label or for yourself?
I have found a good chemistry with Rasalifers, and we are working on several projects together.
Our next release will be on Geometries. Other releases are on their way too, but I cannot unveil any details at this moment.
Who are some of the producers out there that are inspiring you currently?
My biggest inspiration is Calvin Harris. I have followed his music from the beginning of his career and I love the new direction that he decided to take for his music.
Congratulations on being announced at Tomorrowland!! How does that feel?
It is a dream come true. I never believed that I would get this opportunity and I am really grateful for it. I am still astonished and it is really difficult to realize that I will DJ at Tomorrowland.
