Andrew Rayel: An ASOT At Ultra Staple
We were excited to be able to catch up with Andrew Rayel at Ultra Music Festival, who was still dripping in sweat after his incredible Megastructure performance. Andrew was thrilled to yet again play the Megastructure for A State Of Trance this year, and his set featured loads of awesome new music. We touched on a couple of these new tracks including “Trance Reborn” with David Gravell, a special new vocal track premiered at Ultra, as well as Andrew's plans for Find Your Harmony Episode 100 and more. Enjoy some insight from the trance superstar and don't miss his set [tracklist here] from Ultra!
How was it playing Ultra today?
Andrew Rayel: It was absolutely incredible. I dropped so many new tracks and I’m very excited and curious to see what people think.
Let’s talk about some of those new tracks, starting with the Find Your Harmony 100 anthem.
Andrew Rayel: Yeah, it’s called “Trance Reborn,” together with my buddy David Gravell. It’s funny that we produced that track kind of a while ago, last summer. I was on my Moments tour in the US and it was like a properly planned touring schedule. I was in the US for three months playing in different cities. I had decided that for those three months, I didn’t want to stay in hotels the whole time so I rented a place in Las Vegas since I play there constantly for my residency at Marquee. I got David for a couple of shows, for the big ones, and he stayed at my place in Vegas for a few days. For those three months I brought speakers and set up a mini studio in a room and we were just hanging around and wanted to make some music while we were together. We came up with “Trance Reborn” which at the beginning was called “Just Reborn.” And then with Find Your Harmony 100 coming soon and playing this track as an ID, I thought, why not make it the anthem. The whole concept behind FYH100 was a pure trance show, so we decided to call it “Trance Reborn.”
Anything special planned for the 100th episode?
Andrew Rayel: We have two special radio episodes. I usually do an hour every week, but the special episodes will be two hours. It will be an hour of all of the latest exclusives with a bunch of surprises in it, plus the first one is going to be an Armin van Buuren guest mix for an hour. The second one will have a Vini Vici and Cosmic Gate guest mix. I’m also planning live celebration shows. The first one is happening in my home country of Moldova on April 28th with a live broadcast where everyone can tune in. So you can listen to it and tracklist it. We also have one planned for Los Angeles at the end of May and one in Amsterdam over the summer.
Can you pick a track that you premiered today and tell us about that one?
Andrew Rayel: I premiered a song with HALIENE. It’s called “In The Dark.” I love HALIENE. She did the mega hit “Saving Light” with Gareth Emery, and I loved her voice so we decided to make a track together. She sent me the vocal about a week ago and I knew I had to finish it for Ultra because I loved the lyrics she did. So I played it and people went nuts.
How has your Miami Music Week been overall?
Andrew Rayel: It was really good, I kept it very relaxed. I did a couple of visits on radio shows, playing for iHeart Radio and Sirius XM. I played a two hour set at E11EVEN. I was very surprised that so many fans came since it’s kind of a strip club, but they’re fans and don’t care about all of that. I went Friday to Ultra to check Armin’s set and he dropped a couple of my new songs.
How are the next couple of months shaping up for you?
Andrew Rayel: It’ll be constant touring. I’m going to Germany, Asia for a few shows, then the US and EDC Week is coming up. Then I’ll be playing the Mainstage of Tomorrowland this year. Lots of cool stuff.
You can catch the latest from Andrew Rayel in his weekly Find Your Harmony radioshow. Stay tuned for the upcoming 100th episode special!
