DRYM's Exclusive Mix
Ukranian duo DRYM have been on a roll in 2018. Having released their official remix of Armin van Buuren – “Sex, Love & Water,” graced the Top 10 Trance Chart on Beatport three times, and had three tracks included the ASOT 2018 Compilation, it’s safe to say the year has been filled with many highlights. With much more excitement on the way we were excited to get an ID heavy mix and insightful interview with the guys!
Hi guys, thanks for joining us today! 2018 has already been quite a busy year for you – how’s the year been going through your eyes?
Hey! First of all, thanks for having us! It's a pleasure to do this mix for you guys! Yeah, this year started really cool and brought a lot of highlights already. So our plan is just to keep things going – we’re working on new music and projects in the studio and preparing new releases.
Looking first at your own mix – how did you approach this set and how would it compare to a live DJ set of yours?
For this set we decided to play our latest releases plus a few exclusive IDs and current favorites. When we are playing live (depending on the venue of course) we are dropping maybe a bit more main room material than we used here. When we do recorded mixes like this one, it's a good chance to play more easy-listening music at the beginning to show what we love to listen to also.
Can you highlight three tracks and why you chose to include them?
We would like to mention our exclusive remix for “The Code” and also we’ve included a great remix from Standerwick and of course our latest collab with our Ukrainian friend Omnia.
Your collab “Ethereal” together with Omnia has been just massive and is an exciting follow up to last year’s “Enigma.” Can you tell us what you like about working with one another and how you feel that you’ve found a nice mesh of styles in your collabs?
It's always fun to work with Evgeny (Omnia). We all have lived in Kiev for many years and it was just matter of time for us to work together. It happened twice and we are all happy with the results. We really feel that we have interesting visions of trance music which collide in our collaborations… and maybe we can expect another one in the future!
Steve Allen has just recently released his huge remix of “Enigma.” What do you like about Steve’s take?
Absolutely love this version. Thank you Steve!
With your remix of Armin van Buuren’s “Sex, Love & Water,” you’ve created a really unique sound. How did you approach that remix and how do you feel that you’ve made the track your own?
Thanks! We've seen some comments on socials like: “This is new sound called psy-room” haha! When the label asked us to do an uplifting remix for the track we said, “Hell yeah, we’re gonna do that!” But we did not realize how we would deal with the slow BPM original parts which do not work with really high BPM. In the end, we figured it out by slowing things in the breakdown and everyone liked it!
What does it mean to you for Armin to make that remix a regular in his sets and see him rock ASOT850s across the world with the track?
When we heard that Armin played our remix live we truly realized: yes, it works. Of course we want to say big thanks to Armin and his team for showing us big support the last few years.
At the end of this month you will play together with Markus Schulz in Kyiv! Can you tell us a little more about that night and what makes that event so special to you guys?
That’s right! That’s going to be a really interesting event July 27th at the Bel Etage club. Only three artists the whole night – Markus, ourselves, and Omnia. The last time we played alongside Markus was in Amsterdam and now we are excited to welcome him in our hometown. Plus we just finished a new remix of his single!
And lastly, you’ve got some big releases upcoming on Who’s Afraid Of 138 and Andrew Rayel’s label In Harmony. Is there anything that you’d like to mention about those tracks?
Yes we can confirm that we are expecting new singles on WAO138 and In Harmony. The release on In Harmony proves that we are still interested in making and playing progressive trance (or you can call it big room trance) music even now when we’ve “quit” in favor of a higher BPM direction.
