1 On 1 With Jean Marie

As summer season winds down, we took some time to catch up with Jean Marie, who reflected on a massive 2018. With a packed summer touring schedule, as well as appearances at two Ultra Music Festivals, including on the mainstage at Ultra Miami, there was lots of exciting happenings to recap!

Jean Marie, thanks for joining us today! We understand that you’re in Ibiza at the moment for a gig, so how’s the White Isle been treating you?
Hi and thank you for inviting me! I consider myself lucky, I had the chance to perform in Ibiza for the first time in 2007, at the famous club Space. Since then the ssland has always given me very strong emotions. I love the food, the sea and to listen to its music everywhere. Can't ask for better!

Can you talk some about your history with the island and how it’s influenced your music taste and education?
Ibiza isn't just a place, it’s a whole life experience. When I was younger I always came here to listen to my favourite DJs and to discover new music and artists! This place is always evolving and it has always been an inspiration for me not only as an artist, but as a person.

Can you talk a little bit about how you adjust your sets to crowds across the world? How does a Jean Marie set in Ibiza compare to sets in Asia versus your festival sets?
I spend many hours looking for new music and producing my edits. I also try to study which kind of music is the most popular in each country to keep myself updated. I always try to interact with the crowd and create an experience that they can remember not matter where I am. Wherever I play I always try to let the crowd have fun!

Your touring schedule in Italy was packed this summer! Can you highlight a few of your favorite dates and why they stand out?
I'm really happy about my summer tour! It started with my 3rd Asian tour and then I went straight to play at Ultra Europe. It was my 4th Ultra in 2 years. I played at the UMF Radio stage to then make an appearance on the mainstage for a few minutes presenting one of my upcoming releases!

In Italy I've played at King's Jesolo opening for Alan Walker and then at Villa Delle Rose, one of the most important clubs in our country. I also had fun playing in Venice at the Holy Color Festival in front of 10k people, just on the beach, and I've ended my summer playing at the Ocean Beat Party here in Ibiza.

As you mentioned, you’ve had the chance to appear at two Ultra Music Festivals this year. Can you tell us about your experiences at Ultra Miami and Ultra Europe?
Every time I get to play at Ultra it feels like it's the first time. It’s just an incredible experience. In the last two years I had the chance to perform four times so I'm forever grateful for this. I love to work with the Ultra brand!!

Can you tell us some about your track premiered with Mykris at Ultra?
It is one of my upcoming releases titled "Moonlight Fiesta," that is a pop track filled with amazing vocals and melodies. We premiered the remixes with Mykris and Kevu at the mainstage of Ultra Miami and Ultra Europe.

In March, in Miami, I got goosebumps when we played it. It was my first time on the mainstage, the most important in the world, and it happened during their 20th anniversary so it made the occasion even more special.

As we head into fall. what are you looking forward to most? What are two goals that you hope to accomplish with the Jean Marie project in the next year?
I'm working hard for the future trying to produce new music and expand my fanbase. I would like people to know me better. I will come back to Asia with new dates and I would like to explore new music genres as well. I would love to play new festivals all over the world, but one of my biggest dreams is to get to play at Ushuaia Ibiza!
