Loud Luxury's Exclusive Mix

In the middle of their first headlining tour, Loud Luxury joined us with a true crowd-pleaser of an Exclusive Mix featuring their new single “Body,” exclusive edits, and cuts from CID, Don Diablo, Chris Lake, MK, and many more! In our interview, the guys shared some first reactions to the The Body Heat tour and the incredible reception they’ve been receiving in each city to “Body.” You can expect a lot more from this talented Toronto duo this year so enjoy a look and listen into the up and coming stars’ world as the excitement around Loud Luxury grows!
How did you approach your mix and how does your track selection compare to a current club set of yours?
For this mix, we tried to showcase the sound we have been playing on our Body Heat tour. Normally nightclubs have to be much more energetic so this mix was a cool opportunity to still play what we consider to be a Loud Luxury sound but in a much less frantic, ADHD way that playing shows can require.

Can you highlight three tracks within your mix and why they stand out to you?
CamelPhat & Elderbrook –  “Cola” (Robin Schulz Remix). This track’s support list speaks for itself. We have a tremendous amount of respect for tracks that can thrive in the underground and mainstream simultaneously. “Cola” is the perfect example of that and the Robin Schulz remix does an amazing job of making it a little more accessible.

CID – “Creepin’.” CID is not only an incredible producer, but a big inspiration for us. House music is alive and well!

Don Diablo – “Momentum.” It feels like nowadays, there are fewer and fewer artists making really energetic club/festival tracks that don’t come off annoying and cheesy. We love playing out Don Diablo’s stuff because it feels big, but sounds genuine.

Currently you guys are in the middle of a big run of shows for your Body Heat tour, so what have been some highlights from the first dates and what are some cities/gigs you are looking forward to most?
The Body Heat tour has been incredible so far. This is our first true headlining tour and every show has been slammed with people that know the words to all of our songs – it’s a feeling we will never get used to.

We’re really looking forward to phase two of the tour as we are going to be touring with a massive artist and playing some world-class venues. We can’t say too much about it yet, but soon!

Looking deeper at the lead single for the tour, “Body,” how did you and Brando meet? What was the initial inspiration for the track?
We met Brando when we first started living in LA about a year ago. We actually first discovered him at someone else’s show, and as soon as we saw him performing, we knew we had to make something together.
When we got into the studio to work together, he showed this idea he had for a hip-hop, DJ Mustard style track he had called “Body On My.” It sounded really silly as a hip-hop track, but once we threw more emotional chords in it, the song had a new dimension. It sounded like this really youthful, upbeat song about letting go for the night.

“Body” features massive artist support, has racked up major streams, and we’ve seen the videos of all of your fans singing along at your shows. Are any of these markers of success more important than the others to you guys? What do you feel makes a successful release?
Honestly, those videos of people singing along are the best. I think that’s an edge that “Body” has compared to any other song we’ve released – we have seen the power of a song that can bring so many people together.

What can you tell us about some of your release plans in 2018? Are there any artists with whom you would like to try and collaborate this year?
Aside from electronic music, we have been listening to a massive amount of R&B and hip-hop. PARTYNEXDOOR is actually from the same city as Andrew, so that would be really dope. LAUV and if we got lucky enough, Ed Sheeran (one can dream right).

How is the rest of your year shaping up outside of the productions? What are two goals that you are hoping to achieve this year?
Honestly, our goal has always been to take this project as far and wide as we possibly can. We really look up to an artist like Drake who has been able to create this melting pot of music from all over the world. We would love to see more of the world and translate it into something that is fresh, but still feels like a Loud Luxury track.
