DUBOSS Arrives With "Voyage, Voyage"

DUBOSS is a brand new artist project from an experienced producer, and he’s about to make some serious waves with his first original release, the Imanbek Edit of “Voyage, Voyage.” It’s a track that’s primed for the summer and brings a positive and uplifting vibe when it’s needed most. Brace yourselves for a big year ahead for DUBOSS and get the inside scoop about the launch of his project!

Hi DUBOSS, thanks for joining us today! Can you please introduce yourself, and tell us about your experience in the music industry and as a producer leading up to the launch of the DUBOSS project?
Hi, thanks for having me! Music has always been my passion and I have been making music since a young age. I was involved with some successful music projects in the late ‘90s and left the industry to pursue a career in technology. DUBOSS is my fresh comeback project after more than a decade away from music.

Let’s go back to the start of your musical aspirations. Who were the artists who first inspired you to pursue a career in music?
I grew up in Mallorca — Ibiza’s big sister island. As a result, I was influenced from an early age by top European DJs who would come and play at my home island’s clubs, including the legendary BCM. Names like Armin van Buuren, DJ Quicksilver, DJ Sammy or Paul Oakenfold, pulled me towards melodic anthems and techno-pop and later ‘90s Balearic house.

While the times are quite tough at the moment, this must still be a really exciting time to be taking off with DUBOSS. Can you tell us about the experience and your excitement in getting the project off the ground?
Definitely, although I began to work on my musical project before this mad year started. This crisis has only emphasised this new personal beginning while following my passion. This has helped me focus on positive stuff and opportunities despite the general despair.

We also understand that you’re a family man and together with your wife have two young kids. As someone who spends a lot of your time traveling, how enjoyable has it been for you to have the extra time together with your family?
It has been truly enjoyable to the point where it makes us reflect on our old priorities and way of life. Despite it being a horrible situation for most, hopefully kids will remember the Covid lockdowns as a period where they got to spend a lot of time with their parents.

Let’s jump into your next release which is a massive one, the Imanbek Edit of “Voyage, Voyage.” This track is a remake of the 80s hit by Desireless – can you tell us about what the original means to you, and what you wanted to do with your version to bring it into 2020?
When I close my eyes and think back to my parents’ car, I remember the feelings of joy when the song was played on the radio. The song was released at a time where traveling was not as common as nowadays. Funnily enough, my cover version will be released at a similar time! We all love travelling, because it detaches us from our daily lives and brings us new, different and rich experiences. This feeling of exploration and joy is what I wanted to recreate with my version.

How did you come to team up with Imanbek and what was the experience like working on this track together?
I already knew Imanbek from his previous remixes and loved what he did with the music. I reached out to him and asked him to team up on this track. He has proven to be an amazing producer. I enjoyed his contribution and I'm very happy with the end result.

Can you tell us about some of your favorite places that you’ve had the opportunity to travel to? Where are you looking to go next once travel is possible again?
I am looking to visit Australia and New Zealand because it is very close to Singapore – relatively speaking – and I have not been there yet. As of now, I am really missing my yearly trip to Ibiza and to my home island Mallorca. I am still waiting for restrictions to be lifted so I can go. It will be a strange season with fewer people. Hopefully this virus gets tired of us soon.

And lastly, what does the rest of 2020 look like for you? Is there anything that you’re particularly looking forward to in the months ahead?
I will be very concentrated on my musical career launch and very positive about it. I am looking forward to learning a lot and meeting new friends along the way. I am also optimistic about the rest of the year for everyone. I think we’ve had enough calamities and that we should only go up from here. That is my wish at least!
