Marco V's Exclusive Mix

Marco V has enjoyed an illustrious 25 year career and at the moment he is on an absolute roll with his productions. From the release of his heavily supported tech trance tracks “Aranck” on Armada and “Network” on FSOE, to his upcoming release “Chills” on Doorn, Marco continues to bring forward dancefloor friendly tracks that rise above the rest.

How did you approach your mix and how does your track selection compare to a current club set of yours?
When I make the track selection for a mix like this or a mix compilation that people listen to at home I always try to select tracks that have a nice melody or vocal. A live set is different, for example if I play a monotone techno kind of track and mix a track in with a euphoric melody, I can create a certain atmosphere that is not possible in a pre-recorded set. You need to experience that live.

Can you highlight three tracks within your mix and why they stand out to you?
KhoMha feat. Emma Chatt – “Other Side Of Me.” Great vocal and very cool melody, great production as well.

Genix – “Ripsaw.” Love his stuff, always a great groove in his tracks. Something I find very important in the stuff I play.

Chris Schweizer – “The Wolf.” One of the best producers in (tech) trance right now. Spot on when it comes to dancefloor damage.

We’ve got to ask you about “Aranck” first as it’s a recent favorite of ours! What do you feel are some signature elements of this tech trance monster?
Thank you. I wanted to create a tech trance track with a less standard bassline, but without losing the impact when it kicks in. For the break I wanted a melody with a V:sion like quality similar to the tracks I did back in those days.

How have you been using the track in your sets and what’s the reception been like?
Great crowd reaction, I think it’s because it had this completely different vibe while still fitting in perfectly between the other tracks I play.

We’re also absolutely loving “Chills”! Sander’s been banging it out for the past several months as well. What does it mean to you to release on his label (especially after his recent return to trance with his Purple Haze alias)?
I’m a big fan of “Chills” myself too if I may say so. I was not sure what label could fit this track, with it being so very different again. So it was very welcome that Sander is going back to trance with Purple Haze. Everything really fell into place :)

You both have been staples in dance music for quite some time now, so how do you see your styles comparing?
To be honest, not completely sure what Sander is playing nowadays in his live sets, but years ago we did some B2B sets together and that was always great.

“Network” with Paul Denton is some powerful tech trance! What brought you and Paul together?
Paul is a great talent and very easy to work with. It was pretty simple really – he sent me his music, which I really liked, so I asked him if he was open to the idea of doing a collab.

How do you view the state of trance music currently? Are there any developments or changes you hope to see in the future?
I’ve been away from the trance scene for a while because I was finding it a bit too-much-of-the-same. But now it's the opposite, there is so much going on with different styles of trance and collabs. I hope trance will be as big as it was years ago and I have good faith that it will be bigger in the next few years as there are lots of new talents knocking on the door!

How’s the rest of your year shaping up? Are there any personal goals you are hoping to achieve in 2018?
I’ve been around in the scene for more than 25 years so I don't have many goals that I want to achieve. I am happy if I can continue what I'm doing and keep playing great gigs.
