Fedde Le Grand's 'Sucker For Love' Exclusive Mix

Fedde Le Grand is back with another signature feel good groove in “Sucker For Love.” To celebrate he’s crafted a special mix filled with exclusives from his label Darklight alongside some of his favorite tracks of the moment. In our interview we take a closer look at his collab with NOME., use of his free time during the pandemic, and much more!

Fedde, thanks so much for joining us to celebrate “Sucker For Love”! It’s an exciting collaboration with up & comer NOME. Do you remember when you first met or heard NOME.’s music? What was your impression?
Yes the first time I heard it I was surprised by how musically advanced he already was, so he had my attention right away.

What brought you guys together and what made “Sucker For Love” the right track for your first collaboration?
The track got me right away and I was surprised that the vocalist was Dutch too. The track had everything it needed already; it just had to come together and have a little TLC.

The track brings some signature Fedde Le Grand feel good groove. Can you highlight your favorite elements in the production?
It’s always about how the bass and beats work together – that’s your basic groove and you dress it up from there.

What has it been like without a dancefloor to test your music on and connect with fans across the world? Do you feel that your sound has changed at all?
I just did two club bangers right before the pandemic, but those tracks not getting the festival play we were expecting made me decide to do more streaming orientated music, and I love it! I love working with vocals and doing more poppy stuff.

As an artist, where have you been drawing inspiration from over the past year plus?
Inspirational things are all around you :-).

You and your label Darklight are known for consistently supporting newcomers and providing a platform to truly help talent grow. Can you tell us some more about those values and what makes that so important to you?
I have never cared – and still don’t – about who and what you are and what you’ve done. If the music speaks to me, you’re welcome to the Darklight family, and the new guys are the future. I can help them, but at the same time they keep me on my toes and keep me in touch with what is bubbling under the surface.

We heard you’ve been working on some exciting collaborations, so can you tell us anything about any of those projects?
Haha no not really, only that I’ve signed an amazing deal and one of the upcoming tracks is with an amazing American band.

We knew you were a foodie, but we also just learned that you’re going to be opening a new restaurant in the Netherlands called “Vegan Heroes” on June 1st! Can you tell us some more about the concept and that endeavor? Is that something that came to life during this period with more free time?
Yeah I’ve always been into food and especially when it’s healthy food. That made me become a vegan or partially vegan. Because while traveling it’s not always available so sometimes I have to be a vegetarian for a few days. And during this pandemic it only made more sense to take care of yourself and also make more people aware of the benefits for yourself and the planet. And a restaurant seemed the best way for me to raise more awareness and also do something that I always wanted to do.

Turning our attention to your Exclusive Mix, how did you approach this mix and create a flow?
The flow of a mix is always important to me. I like to start out slowly and relaxed and really bring the listener into the mix, then go into more grooving territory, build into a climax with a bang, then cool down with a nice vibey track. At Darklight we release music we think is cool and this isn’t bound to any specific genre. So for this mix I’ve selected tracks from my label only. A lot of exclusive unreleased material, new released tracks and some personal favourites.

Looking closer at the Exclusive Mix, can you highlight three tracks included and why they stand out to you?
The first track I want to highlight is of course my brand new track “Sucker For Love.”

The second is a newly signed track that will be released soon which is "Mad Love” by Shake Coconut and Wizzly. I think this one will do very well.

The third track is another new one which will be released soon on my label, Xotto - “It’s Fake.” I love the bouncy vibe in this one and I can’t wait to play it live.

And as we look ahead, how are you keeping yourself motivated and on track? Given the last 14 months, how have you adjusted the balance and your goals for yourself and Darklight?
I’ve tried to focus on the positive things from the situation. I can finally see my family and attend birthdays and holidays. I finally have full focus on making music. I can sleep, eat and work out regularly. I even had time to open a restaurant :-) All in all not a bad score for 14 months haha!
