TripL Off To A Fast Start In 2020
Israeli duo TripL are on a roll to start 2020. The guys kicked off the year with a remix of Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now” and have followed that up with one of their biggest releases to date, “Never Gonna Give You Up” on Don Diablo’s label Hexagon. The stars are aligning for TripL to keep the momentum going and we were thrilled to catch them for an update on their journey!
Hey guys, thanks for joining us today! Can you please introduce yourselves? How long have you been producing and DJing and when did you come together to form TripL?
Our names are Lior & Omri and together we are the duo TripL, it’s a pleasure to be here. We've been producing and DJing separately since we’ve known each other. Yaron – Lior's cousin and Omri's best friend introduced us to each other and we decided to try working together about 7-8 years ago.
What's it like for you guys working together in the studio? What strengths do each of you bring to the table?
While Omri is usually better at sound designing and production, Lior is the one writing the songs, editing the vocals and writing the melodies, so we kind of complete each other. In the end we work on everything together, but we each have our own strengths.
To kick off the year you released a remix of Dua Lipa's “Don't Start Now.” Could you tell us about this remix? What do you like about the original, what made you want to remix the track, and how did you put your own twist onto it?
The remix actually symbolizes our transition from the progressive house music we've been known for so far to more of a future house vibe. Dua Lipa has been a force to be reckoned with for the past couple of years and we've been looking for a chance to remix her for a while now. Her voice is something special that you don't hear much of today, which is probably why she's been so successful. Our idea was to pretty much take her amazing voice and combine it with classic piano chords in the break and a future house style Hexagon drop to explore new horizons.
“Never Gonna Give You Up” is a massive release! How did this track come to life?
Well we actually started “Never Gonna Give You Up” about a year ago. The original song from the 80s always had a warm place in our heart and we've been wanting to do something with it for a couple of years now, something more dance oriented. The original demo was actually done about a year ago, but it took us a while to get the rights for it from several publishing companies. We actually sent it in the very beginning to Matt Nash who advised us to contact Hexagon, and they liked it so much that they secured the rights. We made some adjustments to make it more “Hexagonian” and decided to release it there.
What was it like releasing on Hexagon for the first time and getting extensive support from Don?
We heard great things about the label and always saw the huge fan base that Don has from afar, but we never expected it to be this big. The weekend before the release date a video of Don playing “Never Gonna Give You Up” at one of his shows showed up on Instagram. We started to receive a lot of tags on stories and posts and our phones literally blew up haha. On top of that, Don's such a nice guy and we're really happy to have his support and of course join the Hexagon label family.
Can you take us back to the beginning of your careers – who were some of your early musical inspirations? And who are some artists who are currently inspiring you?
We actually started listening to club trance as kids. The good old Magic Sunrise compilations by Tiësto. Then we moved towards the house scene including legends like Axwell, Bob Sinclar and more. These days we're trying to explore more genres and decades of music. Gotta say that we're huge fans of the original disco and funk scene of the 70s! Pure music.
How would you describe a TripL DJ set? Any must-play tracks for you at the moment?
A TripL DJ set usually is a high octane EDM set that combines mashups of EDM classics and some banging tunes. We really like what Morten has been doing recently with his “Future Rave” genre.
And finally, what are you most excited for in 2020? Any major goals for this year?
Having received such good feedback from Don and Hexagon Records, we've decided to evolve our sound even further and work on some more tracks for the label, so we're excited for that! Our major goal for this year is to release more music and land more shows this year, which we believe that we will achieve! Also we'd like to thank you for having us today!
