Today we’re excited to showcase rising talent Tim Van Werd! On the heels of his just released bomb “Balkan Disco” on TurnItUp Muzik, Tim has also signed new music to Protocol Recordings, and many of his own favorite productions are still to come! Turn it loud and enjoy a listen into his live sets with his Exclusive Mix!
Tim, good to have you here with us today. How’s your year going so far?
Fantastic! This year I started producing a lot of new music, I’ve been in the studio for some months and I think the results are better than ever before. I’ve changed my style a bit, more pop, but always groovy.
You have a very exciting new release on TurnItUp Muzik called “Balkan Disco” which puts quite a classy folk spin on a typical club track. What were the inspirations behind this one?
I heard these ‘balkan’ samples, and started editing them and recorded an extra trumpet for the break. I think the combination of balkan and house is really good – it has a lot of energy!
Talk to us about how you got started as a DJ/Producer. From what I’ve read, you had quite a talented childhood! Playing the drums, trumpet, and piano at such an early age. What was it like growing up with such a diverse array of talents and how did that shape you musically?
I grew up in a very musical family, my father studied at the conservatory (drums) and I learned a lot from him. Of course learning all these instruments really helps me now in making music, when I have an melody in my head, I can easily write it down.
If you could have an hour in the studio with one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?
Definitely Axwell, his production skills are so sick! I’ve learned mixing by listening to his music, there is some much detail in his tracks.
You released a pretty hot collaboration with Leandro Da Silva late last year called “Hot Sand”. How did you and Leandro get acquainted, and what inspired this one to come about?
I sent Leandro some ideas by email and he started playing them. I told him I wasn’t really sure if the track was all the way there for a release so he came up with the idea to finish it, added some percussion to give it some more energy and boom a monster was born!
What has been your favorite production this far?
My favorite production isn’t released yet haha, I hope to release it next year.
Pick three tracks in your Exclusive Mix that stand out and tell us why they stand out to you.
Sunney James & Ryan Marciano - “Savages” (Magnificence Remix). The productions from Magnificence are really tight. I’m playing their tracks in all my livesets.
Simon De Jano & Bottai - “K.I.T.T”. It’s an older track but this still works in my sets. Together with “Ocean” by Martin Garrix as a TVW Mashup makes it come to life again.
Sick Individuals, Jewelz & Sparks - “Reaction.” What a bomb! When the drop kicks in... damn.
What can we and your fans expect to come from Tim Van Werd in the remainder of this year and next? Any major news you can share with us?
A lot of new music, better quality, bigger record labels. I’ve just signed a track on Nicky Romero’s label Protocol for the end of this year!
