Eli Brown's Exclusive Mix

Eli Brown has taken the tech house world by storm over the past two years and quickly developed into one of the most in-demand producers in the scene. Firmly entrenched with the hottest labels and brands like Repopulate Mars and Sola, Eli’s lined up an incredible release and tour schedule for March. We’re celebrating with his Exclusive Mix and taking a deeper look at his productions including new Sonny Fodera collabs as well as his packed Miami schedule!

Hey Eli! Thanks for joining us on the Exclusive Mix today. You’ve been on an absolute tear this past month with non-stop releases! Take us through the past several weeks starting from the Another Dimension EP.
So, I’ve just dropped the Another Dimension EP on Sola which has done really well, closely followed by “Takin Over” on Toolroom, another club banger. Also, I’ve returned to Of Unsound Mind, Skream’s label, which is where it began for me to deliver a remix for Melodys Enemy and in return they've remixed “Tech This Out,” which was one of my breakthrough tracks. Next up I’ve got my EP with Will Clarke coming on Adam Beyer's label Truesoul [check out the premiere below!]. These tunes have been massive in my sets and picked up support from Green Velvet, Eats Everything, Adam Beyer to name a few.

Can you pick one track from the Another Dimension EP and tell us more about the inspiration and production?
Yeah, the lead track “Another Dimension” started around a sample I found whilst listening to a Joe Rogan podcast. He's chatting about DMT and tripping, so it gave me the idea to make a club tune that fucked with people’s heads in the dance, with its weird vocals and high-pitched synths it definitely does the job!

Which track from that EP do you like playing out most and why?
It has to be “Another Dimension.” I’ve been playing it for about a year and it always kills it. People seem to love the trippy vocal and the big bassline.

We’re super excited for your upcoming EP [pre-order here] together with Sonny Fodera and wanted to set the stage properly by taking things back a bit first. Do you remember the first time that you heard a Sonny Fodera track and what your impression was? What about the first time you met him?
I can’t totally remember the first tune that I heard of Sonny’s, but it was back in about 2013 when he was banging out releases left, right and centre. One that stands out is his EP on Suara, proper deep underground vibes. I only met him last year when he booked me to play at his Solotoko events in Manchester, things got out of hand and I guess we've been mates ever since.

Tell us some more about the two tracks on the Hurt Me EP and how you’ve been able to find a nice fusion between your sounds.
Both tracks are high energy club tunes, I think the fusion works well as Sonny knows how to write big tunes and with my added darker vibes we seemed to complement each other.

You’ve become really engrained in two of the strongest tech house labels/brands at the moment in Sola and Repopulate Mars. What makes each special to you and why do you feel that they’ve become so strong both release and event wise?
Yeah, it’s great to be involved with some of the best labels in the scene. I think the Solardo boys and Lee Foss have a great ear and they focus on quality releases which is why the labels have both grown so rapidly over the past 12 months. I feel blessed to be a part of those labels, and all of the other labels I release on to be honest, when I started this project two years ago it was a dream to be releasing and DJing with these guys.

Your US touring has really started to pick up as well! How do you see the US underground scene comparing to the European scene? Do you find any differences in music education or track selection across your sets?
Yeah America is really popping off at the moment, the scene out there is exciting and fresh, and I love playing out there. Whilst the scene is growing rapidly, I don’t find too much difference in the types of music the crowd are into which is a good thing as I love playing to crowds that are open minded.

Looking closer at your Mix, could you highlight three tracks included aside from your own and what makes them special to you?
Josh Butler - “Integrate.” I love this tune and probably my favourite tune from Josh, rolling dark techno vibes which goes off every time I play it.

Ghettoblasta & DJ Funk - “Get Dat.” What a tune, I’ve always loved DJ Funk and this is like a modern version of his old stuff. The bass on this tune is insane.

Joseph Edmund - “Brotha Plz.” A new producer from Manchester who is killing it right now, I’ve been introing all my DJ sets with this lately and never fails to create an impact when I come on.

And as we head towards Miami Music Week, what has you most excited over the next month?
I’ve got a busy month ahead playing in Colombia for the first time, heading back to Ecuador which is one of my favourite places to play, and I’m also playing in my home town of Bristol and of course Miami. With all those shows it’s hard to say which I’m most excited about however I am really looking forward to playing Space in Miami for the first time, I hear amazing things about this place!
