KAAZE's 'The Evil Folk' Exclusive Mix
Today we’re celebrating KAAZE’s milestone release "The Evil Folk" with his Exclusive Mix & Interview. Originally premiered during ADE last year, and a slick reimagination of the “Streets Of Cairo” song from 1893, the initial response to the track has been massive! Racking up more than 100,000 streams a day, we’re excited to keep the celebrations going with KAAZE’s Exclusive Mix. Turn it up to hear all of his hits on Revealed Recordings, alongside some exclusive mashups, and of course IDs!
KAAZE, thanks for joining us today to celebrate the release of “The Evil Folk.” Before we dive into the new release, can you talk a bit about the past six months coming off the release of your debut album and subsequent DREAMCHILD tour?
It was a big milestone for me to release an album and to do a tour. It’s been a dream since I was a child to release an album and that’s also where the title comes from with DREAMCHILD. I’m also extremely happy to see what an incredible response I got from my fans about taking my own path with more rock influences.
How’d the production for “The Evil Folk” get started? Was there any particular inspiration?
Last year when I was in Spain I heard a street performer play the old 1800s song “Streets Of Cairo” on his guitar and the vision came to me straight away. I made the whole first demo while I was still in Spain and premiered it later during ADE.
Have you been using “The Evil Folk” in your sets? Were there any tweaks that you needed to make to the final production?
I’ve been playing the song in every set. With a few tweaks here and there, but really they were very minor tweaks. Mostly fixing the low end to make sure it wasn’t too heavy so it would fit the radio ear, but also keep the energy and bounce going.
You’re no stranger to working Nino Lucarelli, so can you tell us some more about what you like most about working with him? What makes his voice so strong for your productions?
Well we both come from rock backgrounds so we have very similar visions when It comes down to my music productions. If you feel that you’re having a unique workflow with someone then I don’t see the point of only making one song together. Last year Nino & I really pushed and worked really hard to bring out his more “rock voice” on the album on songs like “Up In Smoke” and “Chain Me Up,” to name a few.
The video of you and Hardwell together in Bootshaus recently got loads of attention online. Can you talk some more about your relationship with Robbert and how it has developed over time?
Hardwell is one of my closest friends in the scene. I look up to him a lot both as a person and artist. He’s the first artist that I felt actually wanted to support me from his heart and I’m forever thankful for that. Same thing goes to the Revealed team who keep pushing me and support every move I make.
Looking closer at your Exclusive Mix, can you highlight three tracks included and why they stand out?
I would first highlight “The Evil Folk.” In my opinion this is so far my biggest and most exciting release of my career. I would also pay attention to the Linkin Park - “Faint” Bootleg that I’ve been playing in almost all of my sets, and also the ID song together with “Devil Inside Me.”
You also recently participated in the first Revealed Podcast episode going in depth for an hour with Sebastian and Mossimo on a host of topics. What was that experience like, and is there any particular segment that you think would be special for all of your fans to hear?
It was really fun to make that podcast and I think it’s a great idea for Revealed to keep making these episodes. I feel that the whole episode is quite interesting because I was trying to cover everything from how I started as a DJ to tips on how to create a better relationship with a record label. My personal tips based on my own experience pretty much. I would definitely recommend listening to the episode.
Anything else that you want to share with readers or that has you particularly excited?
I just wanna thank everybody who is supporting and enjoying my new single “The Evil Folk.” You guys are amazing, and thank you 1001Tracklists for your support over the years as well. I’m very grateful to have teams like you supporting my music.
