Raiden Celebrates 5 Years Of Protocol
Continuing our 5 Years of Protocol Recordings celebration, Raiden’s crafted a groovy and very original Exclusive Mix. After previously releasing his remix of Florian Picasso’s “Final Call” and his original track “Heart Of Steel” featuring Bright Lights on Protocol, Raiden made his way on stage during Nicky Romero’s Ultra Miami set this year to premiere a huge track. His collaboration with Florian Picasso, “Hanabi,” has been a smash hit since then racking up support from the likes of Tiësto, W&W, Martin Garrix, and David Guetta, and it’s been rocking festival stages worldwide! Raiden joined us to discuss that track and the honor of playing the Protocol Recordings stage next week at the legendary Balaton Sound Festival in Hungary. In case you missed it yesterday, be sure to check out Blinders’ Mix & Story and stay tuned over the next three days as we have three more Exclusive Mixes coming from Protocol artists!
What was the first Nicky Romero track that really drew your interest and attention to him and the Protocol label?
I would say that “I Could Be The One” by Nicky Romero and Avicii is one of the tracks that had the strongest impacts on me. The song composition, the sound, the beautiful melody – everything about it is perfect!
“Hanabi” is a huge track! What’s it been like being on stage with Nicky at places like Ultra when he’s dropped the track?
They’ve been some of the best moments of 2017. We both went on stage for Ultra Miami and Ultra Korea, and they were both amazing, but I think Ultra Korea is definitely my biggest moment of 2017. Even though the year isn't over, I'm not sure that one can be topped as Korea is my home ground.
Can you talk us through the production process and working with Florian Picasso on “Hanabi”?
I went to go visit Florian at his studio in Cannes and we started to share our music, talking about different ideas we had. Once we started sharing our music we decided to collaborate. We had our different roles within the production – I was more involved in the builds and vocal chops. I feel like “Hanabi” is a great blend of both of our styles.
You’re playing the Protocol stage at Balaton Sound [event page], so what does it mean to you to play that event alongside such a talented Protocol lineup?
Releasing music on Protocol is a dream for so many artists, but an even greater honour is being asked to be a representative artist of Protocol Recordings on stage. It's always amazing to perform alongside such amazing artists, and this will be my first show in Hungary so I'm very excited for this one. Looking forward to it!
Can you highlight two tracks that you included in your mix and what makes them stand out to you?
Shapov ft. Rookies – “More Than Love” (NEW_ID Extended Remix). New_ID is one of my favourite artists. I chose this track because it has very sad emotional melodies, but with energetic elements at the same time. He's balanced the two differing components really well.
Nicky Romero & John Christian – “Iconic.” I love this track for its classical electro house sound. They have mixed it in with this brilliant guitar sound. Having a heavier rock-like element is something that I have often turned to in my productions as well, so I absolutely love this song because of its powerful guitar riff.
