Jochen Miller: Exclusive Mix & Story
Celebrating his brand new track “Time To Go Back,” Jochen Miller has crafted an outstanding Exclusive Mix. Packed full of his own originals, bootlegs, and mashups as well as the some of the biggest trance and progressive tracks, the mix takes listeners inside Jochen’s world. As an added treat, Jochen joined us to talk about his musical inspirations and influences, and how they have played into his recent productions.
How would you describe your Exclusive Mix? How did you select tracks for the mix?
This Exclusive Mix contains the most melodic and energetic recent tracks that I could find from other artists and of course some of my own work. When selecting the tracks I try to align an hour of music that blends well together, and builds up to the point where you might get in the mood to go out for a dance ;-).
Can you highlight three tracks from other artists and why you chose to include them in the mix?
1. Gareth Emery & Standerwick feat. Haliene – “Saving Light” is one of my personal favorites at the moment. Great melody and a perfect track that blends well in every set.
2. Joel Hirsch feat. Jennifer Rene – “Won Me Over” because of the amazing energy it has and the short catchy melody.
3. Cosmic Gate & Jes – “Fall Into You” has a somewhat euphoric breakdown, that really builds up.
These tracks really represent the Jochen Miller sound.
Let’s talk about your big new track, “Time To Go Back.” What inspired you for this track and how did it evolve over time to its final version?
When working on this track I was mainly inspired by my own older tracks. Fans have been asking me for a “Lost Connection” or “ Brace Yourself” kind of track, and I’ve noticed that lately I want to put more melody in my work, so that’s how things came about.
How does it feel to have support from Armin, W&W, and other trance heavyweights prior to the track’s release?
That feels amazing! That’s when I know that the track came out exactly the way I intended.
What was it like working with Orjan Nilsen on your recent collaboration, “Renegades”? What was the production process like for this track?
Orjan and I have known each other for a long time, and we always get along really well. I have admired his work from the very beginning and it was so much fun working on a track together, combining our sounds. We worked on Skype mostly, because as you might know, our friendly Viking comes from far far away ;-)
Can you talk about your interests in dance music and the music that you like? Who are some artists that you think inspire your style? Are there any other artists that you’re into that you wouldn’t necessarily play in a DJ set?
It’s quite simple, the music I play is the music I love most, and I never get bored with it. Every day I find new gems in this particular style, with a lot of energy, that is always the main thing. I get inspired by a lot of artists, both the legends and the new talents. And when at home I like to listen to deep and tech house, but I wouldn’t include those styles in my set because in the end, the more trancey tracks just go best with the energy I want to showcase in my performances.
What has you excited for this year? Any projects that you’re working on or gigs that you’re particularly looking forward to?
I’m always excited when the new year arrives, let’s just see what 2017 has in store for me. I’m working on several projects at the moment, some still in the demo phase and some almost ready for release. Guess you will just have to ‘brace yourself’ and wait for what’s coming!
