Live From Ultra Japan: NORII
This year Ultra Japan featured two stages, the Ultra Mainstage headlined by international superstars and the Ultra Park Stage showcasing the best Japanese artists. We were thrilled to sit down with one of those artists, NORII, after his set to recap his experience. The Sapporo, Japan native has his own residency at Riviera where he brings international artists monthly, and is no slouch on the production front both with his own records as well as his Sinka imprint doing damage. Add in a massive Thomas Gold ID collab highlighting his Ultra set, and there was loads to discuss!
NORII, thanks for joining us to celebrate your landmark Ultra Japan performance! What were your initial feelings when you found out that you were going to be playing Ultra Japan?
I was very happy and felt honored when I found out that I was going to be playing at Ultra.
Talk us through your Ultra experience on Sunday. What was the crowd like, how did your set go, and what were some favorite moments?
Amazing experience! It seems the crowd reacted really well to me playing house music. My favorite moments were definitely seeing my supporters reacting to my original tracks.
You also played Sunday night at Camelot – how did that set go?
The Camelot gig was an official Ultra Afterparty, so the crowd was mainly from Ultra. It was a great time, but I played more of a festival set than my usual club set.
What was another highlight moment for you this summer?
My highlight moment this summer was definitely going back to Guam for EIF (Electric Island Festival) as the headliner!
How are things progressing with your label, Sinka Records? Which of the recent releases has been a favorite?
We are very fortunate to have many great producers constantly sending us demos. We have been preparing new releases and promos to be sent out to DJs in time for ADE so stay tuned!
My recent favorite is definitely Crusy & Jose De Mara – “New Generation”!
Looking at your own productions, we’ve heard you play a few big IDs! What can you tell us about those?
The ID that I can reveal at the moment will be my own production that I did with Thomas Gold.
Your residency at Riviera in your hometown of Sapporo continues to impress! How are things going there?
It has been great to be able to bring all of these big names to my hometown at my own residency party. I can’t thank enough all of the international guests, the local supporters, my local DJs and club Riviera to make all of this possible.
And lastly, what has you excited for the fall? What can you tell us about your ADE plans?
This fall, I was able to have ASCO and then Styline as my guests for my party which was very exciting. I’m also looking forward to be playing for D.O.D & Friends at ADE for the second year in a row!
