Enjoy the music of one of dance music’s rising stars and get to know Mesto!
How did you approach your Exclusive Mix? How does the mix compare to your live sets?
This mix contains music that I really, really like at this moment. You will hear a lot of club tracks, but also future bass or drum & bass! I really wanted to do something different with this mix.
Can you highlight three tracks included in your mix and why they stand out to you?
Darius – “Hot Hands”: This track is so chill and nice to listen to. I like almost everything from Darius, he puts so much feeling in every track!
Throttle x Michael Bublé – “My Kind Of Girl”: I absolutely LOVE what Throttle did with the track (which is originally by Michael Bublé). You can still hear the nice groove of the original track & he made an absolutely stunning drop by a cool sampling technique.
Ed Sheeran – “Shape Of You” (Milo Remix): This is something new for me too. I love what Milo did with the original track; it still has that nice break, and the future bass drop fits so well with everything. The vocal chops are really nice for your ears.
What was the inspiration and spark behind your collab “Chatterbox” with Fox Stevenson?
I always have looked up to Fox. His track “Tico” is so cool and so original. That's why it was a dream come true for me to collaborate with him. We combined our styles: his jumpy and catchy melodies with my touch of future bounce.
Can you talk about the first sketch you had of the track and how it has changed into the final production that we hear today?
I had a version of the track, which didn't sound as good as it sounds now, but the idea was already there. He added a second part for the drop which I really love: the typical Fox sound. We changed samples and it took a while before we both were happy with the final result. But working together went really well.
What’s your relationship like with Justin Mylo? What do you think makes you guys so successful when working together?
He is such a good friend of mine, and of course our 'journey' in music goes way back. I think we have a lot in common music wise and we think the same about producing. I love working together with him and we had our first real 'success' releasing “Bouncybob” exactly one year ago. A lot has changed since then and we experience the same, new things. I'm happy to have him as a friend.
What elements of NERVO & Askery ft. Brielle Von Hugel – “Alone” stood out to you when you first heard the song? How do you think you preserved some of those elements while still making the track your own with your remix?
Spinnin' Records sent me the original first, with the question if I wanted to remix it. When I first heard the track, I thought, “Wow, this vocal is so cool, I can definitely work with this.” The drop was fresh and I started working on a 'festival edit remix.' The original is more radio oriented I think. It's really cool!
It seems like you’ve got some big ID collabs at the moment including one with Florian Picasso and another with Curbi. What can you tell us about those?
I have a lot of new tracks coming up indeed, and after “Chatterbox” there is a new remix coming. And you can of course expect my new collaboration with Curbi also really, really soon! I'm also working on a new track together with Brielle von Hugel – the one that sang on the Nervo remix track – we're working on an original track now! Funny how things work out... haha!
What else does 2017 hold in store for you?
We're confirming a lot of shows at the moment, but I can't tell much about that yet... stay tuned! Also I'm starting my new episodes: Messin' Around On Tour. With this I will take you guys with me on tour and you guys will get to see what happens backstage, etc. I'm excited for everything!
You can always find the latest from Mesto in his Messin’ Around radio shows.
