First Ultra & MMW For Estiva
Estiva has been on a tear with his productions, earning the #56 spot in this year’s Top 101 Producers. His progressive sound was perfect for daytime at the ASOT Megastructure, and we were delighted to chat with him about his Miami experience and new music. There’s lots to come from the talented Dutch artist, so enjoy his thoughts while you re-listen to his Ultra set [tracklist here]!
How was playing the Megastructure today?
It was great! I’ve always watched the livestream – and this is my first time at Ultra – so it was actually really cool to see it in person. To be able to play it was a dream come true.
And you played a lot of new music today, right?
Like 90% new music.
Can you talk about how your new track with Ruben de Ronde, “Rainbow,” came to be?
“Rainbow” is the first track that’s going to be released on my new album, Spectacle, due for a release over the summer (June 22nd). Ruben and I are mates, we hang out with each other and thought, “let’s do a track together.” Our sounds suit well together. I think the track is a good result – it’s really both Ruben and me that you can hear in the track.
Can you talk about some of the other new music that you played today?
I played six or seven new tunes from the album, a couple of bootlegs, and some tracks that will be released after the album. I have so many tracks lined up.
Any that you’re still tweaking or are these final products?
What you heard today are final projects.
Will you have lots of touring this summer for the album?
Yeah, lots of touring. I was just in China with Armin, the next one is in the UK, and then lots beyond that.
How has your Miami Music Week been overall?
Well it’s not only my first time at Ultra, but my first time in Miami. It’s been really nice. I’m staying here with friends and there’s colleagues everywhere. This is the time to meet all of these people who I’ve been tweeting and Instagraming with. It’s been a lot of connecting which has been great.
How was playing b2b with Ruben at the Armada party?
It was good – we tested “Rainbow” there as well as some tracks from the album. I had never played b2b with Ruben, but I think it went down really well! I don’t play b2b with people too often – I kind of like playing solo because I like to be in control of everything – but this was really cool for hanging out in Miami.
What are you most looking forward to the rest of the day here at Ultra?
Eric Prydz. Very much looking forward to that. And maybe the last hour at the Mainstage is going to have something cool!
