Ultra Japan 2019 Preview
In just under two weeks Ultra Music Festival returns to Tokyo for the sixth edition of Ultra Japan! Taking place September 14th and 15th at Tokyo Odaiba Ultra Park, this year sees a two stage setup with the Mainstage headlined by Afrojack, DJ Snake, Galantis, Pendulum, and Steve Aoki, and the Ultra Park Stage featuring a plethora of local talent! With the full lineup out now we highlighted some of the can’t miss artists on both days!
Early in the day Saturday, Ultra resident DJ Mykris returns to the Mainstage to heat things up with his big room EDM sound [check out his 2018 Ultra Japan set]. He’s followed by Snails, an artist with an unmatched sound design, who’ll bring his trademark 'vomit step' to ratchet up the intensity.
From there, the Mainstage sees two iconic drum & bass artists take the stage in Netsky and Pendulum. It will be back to back sets of unrelenting energy and another exciting chapter for Pendulum and Ultra Music Festival, as the group have become an integral part of the Ultra family since their joint Knife Party & Pendulum headlining performance at Ultra Music Festival Miami in 2016. TRINITY represents the original trio of Rob Swire (Anscenic), Gareth McGrillen (Speed) and Paul Harding (El Hornet) performing together for the first time outside of Australia in over ten years and includes new Pendulum IDs!
Steve Aoki performs next in what is sure to be a massive reception and make him feel like a hometown favorite with his Japanese heritage. DJ Snake follows suit after to again close down the Mainstage of Ultra Japan after doing so last year. Having just released the massive Carte Blanche album this summer, he'll bring loads of tracks to delight the crowd, from hard hitting bangers like his Zomboy collaboration “Quiet Storm” and his "Made In France" (Tchami, Malaa, Mercer, DJ Snake) team anthem, to the worldwide pop anthems like “Magenta Riddim” and “Taki Taki.”
Things heat up on Sunday afternoon when Infected Mushroom take the stage. The psy trance legends will be bringing the massively growing sound to Japan and impressed at Ultra Music Festival Miami this year with two appearances – one on the live stage and another b2b with Vini Vici for ASOT.
Kayzo takes over next as the budding American star brings an unmatched blend of dubstep, hardstyle, pop punk, trap, house, and electro to electrify the crowd. His sets are not to be missed and he’s proven himself ready to dominate the Ultra Mainstage earlier this summer when he closed the Mainstage at Ultra Korea (check out the clip above!) to rave reviews!
The Return Of Dash Berlin marks a triumphant moment as Jeffrey Sutorious had been performing under his given name for the last year including at ASOT 900 at Ultra Miami in March. Galantis take the stage next where their live performance is sure to entertain. 2019 has been a year of big collaborations for the talented Swedish duo who have released tracks together with Yellow Claw, Passion Pit, and One Republic.
Closing the day and the entire festival is none other than Afrojack. The perennial Ultra headliner had one of the best performances at Ultra Europe earlier this summer and his Ultra Japan set will leave nothing to be desired. Always bringing a fresh mix of new IDs with crowd favorite anthems, he’s the perfect act to close an incredible festival weekend!
