Ellis Celebrates "Show Me How"

We’re delighted to be joined today by Ellis to celebrate his record “Show Me How.” Out now on Future House Music, the track has quite a story and Ellis shared the inside scoop with us as well as the story behind his intimate live set from his London flat and plans for ADE & beyond!

How are you feeling about “Show Me How” finally being officially released on Future House Music? Tell us a bit about the story behind the record.
Yes! I spent a long time working on this record actually. It was originally an old track which I liked the vibe of, but the drop wasn’t strong enough. I reworked the drop and we previously released it on my own imprint Essentials back in May, as I didn’t think it was one of my strongest records. However, there seemed to be a lot of demand for the track to be officially released on Spotify, so Future House Music approached us saying that they wanted to properly release it across all stores! We’ve been working on the release together now, and just celebrated it with a unique livestream event in my new flat in London. It was so much fun doing this with Future House Music and my mates Jay Pryor and Tom Westy. I just moved to London to boost my career and surround myself with more creative producers, content creators and songwriters.

We have seen more support from Future house Music for you over the past months. How did you guys start working together?
I always used to send them my tracks for support and for their labels. I think it was “Mojito” back in 2016 that was released on their sub-label On The House. After that, I was getting a lot of support from those guys on remixes, most notably my remix of “Shape Of You,” which reached over 3 million views on their channel and over 50 million across all YouTube uploads! I love the whole Future House Music community – working with these guys is always fun!

You’ve become a well-known name within the future house scene, so what are your thoughts on the genre and its development?
I think future house was originally a great idea. It was something fresh that the house/EDM scene needed at the time. It developed into future bounce, which at the time was also fresh, but very quickly it became oversaturated with overused sounds. Currently, I think that producers are becoming a lot more experimental with house, and this can still be called future house. To me, future house is any type of house that sounds fresh and festival friendly. I like seeing people build upon other existing genres of house. For example, tech house producers are really becoming more innovative and implementing a lot of modern sounds, which is a whole new world that a lot of producers haven’t dove into yet. In general music is always developing, as are all the sub genres, which is both as challenging as it is exciting for producers and DJs in my opinion.

Now you guys have partnered for a livestream event called Show Me House to celebrate the release and your recent move to London. How was the event and how is London treating you?
As I said the event was wicked! It was cool to have an intimate crowd and a more chilled vibe. Everyone was interacting and enjoying the music and the night! Some superfans came down and mixed with my friends, great way to have a good housewarming I think!

I love London! Everything is so energetic and at your doorstep which I love haha. The vibe is great down here too, everyone is creative and ambitious, which really drives you as an artist. To be here, surrounding myself with the next generation of talented people, and find the right collaborations across music, songwriting, content and the label side is absolutely great.

ADE is coming up and you’re on the lineup for the Throttle event. How excited are you to play in Amsterdam?
I can’t wait! ADE is one of my favourite times of the year, and I’m excited to play alongside some sick artists! It’s always fun to play in Amsterdam. Sometimes the UK crowd aren’t big fans of the style of music I make, so it’s nice to play to a fresh crowd!

Any other plans during ADE? Any specific showcases that you are looking forward to?
Mostly meeting with people in the industry that I haven’t already met! I’m actually really looking forward to the Monstercat showcase. The lineup looks intense haha! Another thing that is great about ADE is that I get to meet the online friends who I’ve been speaking back and forth with for the past year in person – from fans to producers, to DJs and business people. For any up and coming artist, I think ADE is a great way to get networking and really build those relationships in the industry.

After ADE what are your plans for the rest of the year?
To focus on finishing up and releasing all of my new material and shows! I want to have a bunch of new tracks ready for 2019 and really work hard on pushing them. Furthermore we’re working on more shows together with the team, so all exciting stuff to come!
