Pjanoo: Tracklister, DJ, & Producer

Get to know Pjanoo: tracklister, DJ, and producer. As one of the most prominent users on the site over the last few years, we are celebrating his 200,000 track ID! We are very thankful for his support!

Pjanoo - The tracklister

Can you introduce yourself and tell the community a bit about you?
My real name is Franz. I'm 27 years old and I'm living in the south of Germany near Munich. Normally I'm visiting the University of Applied Sciences in Munich and one of my biggest hobbies is music. I just love music.

How did you discover 1001tracklists?
I joined 1001tracklists more than four years ago, but I really don't remember why. I think it was just a coincidence. The site was so interesting that I had to stay.

How has the site changed since you started submitting tracklists?
At the beginning of my time there weren't so many users on the site and that was something that you really noticed. It was like a little family. Nobody cared about the next tracklist; we just created what we found. There wasn't anything like "reserving" a tracklist the whole day or competition to create the biggest tracklist with the most views like today.

What do you like about contributing to the website?
I really like helping the users and the artist. It's awesome to see that artists are so thankful about my work and other people's work. And it's also awesome that we can help the users. You can find almost every important set or radio show on the site and I'm proud to be a part of that.

Do you have any favorite artists to tracklist?
It's something special to create tracklists for people that are writing you in private. This is different because they really appreciate the work you're doing.

Do you prefer tracklisting live sets or radio shows? Why?
Tracklisting live sets is more fun because there is no simple copy and paste like adding radio shows. Everybody can add radio shows, but a live set has no tracklist. So you have to listen to it and after it's done you can be a little bit proud because you created something special.

What was the most challenging show you tracklisted or the hardest artist to properly tracklist for?
Laidback Luke is a really hard artist to tracklist. His live sets are so incredible. Earlier, when there weren't services like Shazam, it was really hard to tracklist his live sets. With such music discovery services it's a little bit easier.

Also shows with a lot of tracks aren't as easy as it looks like. You have to listen very carefully. But the hardest sets for me to tracklist are techno sets. This isn't my favorite genre, but sometimes I try it and really fall flat on my face.

How cool is it to reach 200,000 (!!!) track IDs?
This is just awesome and I never thought about that when I registered to the site! I'm also a little bit proud of it.

Pjanoo - The DJ/producer

How would you describe your sound as a producer?
My sound is very changeable and I try everything I like. But most of the time it's a mixture between progressive house, electro house and house/future house.

Who were some of your early influences as an artist?
When I started producing my first own tracks in 2013, I really liked the big room style of Martin Garrix and MAKJ.

Is there a show that you once attended as a fan that made you want to become a DJ/producer?
I think that was the Sensation in Germany at the end of 2009. I saw Fedde le Grand, Sander van Doorn, Laidback Luke and Tocadisco, and this was just awesome. I will never forget this night.

How cool is it to see your tracks supported on the site by some big artists?
This really means a lot to me. Every time I see somebody supporting one of my tracks/mashups, it really make me happy. That's an incredible feeling when artists like Jay Hardway, Oliver Heldens, or Firebeatz play some of your stuff.

Can you talk about some of the tracks in the mix, and why they’re important to you?
Of course I picked the legendary Pjanoo by Eric Prydz. No explanation needed.

There are two songs by Oliver Heldens because I just love his music. I also chose my own two tracks that were released in 2014 on Glovel Records because I'm really proud of these two songs. Then there are tracks by artists that I really admire - Laidback Luke, Martin Garrix, Chocolate Puma, Bingo Players, and Sander van Doorn. And of course I added some of my mashups and tracks that I like at the moment. Like the new track by Jimmy Clash & The Dirty Code, a really cool track by Averro and many more.

How did you pick the track that is your first track in the mix and the 200K ID?
The first track in the mix is my own mashup of Shiver by Mr. Belt & Wezol and Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics. Oliver Heldens played it at Tomorrowland for example and it's a good way to start that mix.

The last track of the mix and also my 200,000th track I added on the page is Olin Batista - Luma. This was more random. I just payed attention that it wasn't a tech house/deep house song because I wanted something that fits in with the whole mix. So I added the tracklist and this was the song.
