Top 101 Producers 2020
The 1001Tracklists Top 101 Producers 2020 is here, featuring the artists whose tracks were most supported by DJs around the world. The rankings are composed of an artist’s cumulative unique DJ support, meaning that these rankings are determined by the amount that a producer had his or her tracks played by DJs in live sets, radio shows, and mixes. As a result, our rankings provide a unique indicator for an artist’s 2020 performance, and an indicator that is generated purely through other artists’ tastes.
For all of an artist's tracks played between October 1, 2019 and September 30, 2020, we have summed the amount of unique support for each track to generate the rankings. Tracks are included in this year's rankings if they have been supported by at least three DJs and if they were released or first played in the last two years. This is a new modification to the Top 101 Producers, intended to place an emphasis on recent productions and trending artists.
This year marks the fifth annual installment of our annual Top 101 Producers ranking, with Oliver Heldens taking home the 2020 crown! It's been an incredible rise for one of the pioneers of the Future House sound, whose current productions feature everything from House to Bass House to Dance and even Techno. He releases under his own name and his HI-LO alias, and few artists can match the diversity and consistency that he brings between both monikers. He's also the head of Heldeep Records, one of the biggest labels in dance music.
MEDUZA come in at #2 in the rankings, an incredible achievement considering that it is their first time in the rankings. Trance legend Armin van Buuren has moved up every year in the rankings and claims his highest finish yet, landing at #3. Following in 4th place is Tiësto, who has finished in the Top 10 in each edition of the rankings, and this year is the owner of the #2 track of the year with his 7Skies collaboration “My Frequency.” Rounding out the Top 5 is last year's winner, David Guetta, who has put together another big year as he's pioneering the Future Rave sound together with MORTEN.
2020 is a year of newcomers and fresh talents rising to the top, with 45 first time entrants in the Top 101 Producers this year. In addition to MEDUZA, Martin Ikin (#10), BYOR (#16) and Raven & Kreyn (#19) enter the rankings for the first time and crack the Top 20.
More than 30 artists represent the sounds of House, Tech House, and Progressive House in the rankings – a sign of its shift into the mainstream with wider acceptance of these styles. Following on the footsteps of the mainstream popularity and success of CamelPhat in 2019 (#9 in Top 101 Producers 2019), we see strong evidence of this trend with MEDUZA at #2 as well as a Tech House artist Martin Ikin at #10. CamelPhat also notably take home a Top 20 finish for the 4th year in a row.
Top 5 artists Tiësto and David Guetta each had a track under one of their aliases as one of their top three scoring tracks in the 2020 rankings calculation (VER:WEST and Jack Back, respectively) and their continued versatility and ability to stay in touch with their genre roots has helped to cement another strong finish.
The UK house scene had a very strong showing with loads of artists included in the rankings – Martin Ikin, CamelPhat, Eli Brown, Solardo, Low Steppa, Wh0, Biscits, and Sonny Fodera all finished in the Top 40. Mark Knight, KC Lights, Illyus & Barrientos, Joel Corry, and James Hype additionally represent UK house in the rankings.
Diplo (#7), Nitti Gritti (#14), and Party Favor (#24) all earned strong finishes in 2020, helped by having far and away the top track of 2020, “On My Mind.”
RetroVision (#6) and Don Diablo (#8) are carrying the torch for the Future House genre. RetroVision started his own imprint Time Machine under Hexagon this year.
21 Countries are represented in the rankings: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Ukraine, USA
