1001Tracklists Presents: Ultra Music Festival - Top Producers Preview
Ultra Music Festival is in class of its own in terms of the amount of new music played. For many months, both the artists playing at Ultra, artists from their labels, and aspiring newcomers have been busy in the studio working on new tunes that they hope may see the ultimate light of day at Ultra. As Jay Hardway said, “Ultra is about premiering new music for all of the DJs playing and they have SO MUCH to choose from!” It is so exciting to see and listen to all of the artists’ sets and it is even more exciting to see so many artists from our data based 2016 Top 100 Producers rankings appear on the Ultra lineup this year. We’ve highlighted some of those artists from the big guys to some of the potentially overlooked in an attempt to honor those artists whose productions have stood out over the last year with recognition both from fellow artists and from the Ultra Music Festival team. You can also find some of the top producers playing the Megastructure on Sunday for A State Of Trance and we've got you covered with a preview here.
The Big Guys
6 of the top 10 producers from our 2016 rankings will be gracing the Ultra Mainstage with their headlining performances this year. Don Diablo makes his first Ultra Mainstage appearance on Friday along with Diplo, who will close out the Mainstage that night with a Major Lazer performance. Tiësto slots in on Saturday evening as do Axwell and Ingrosso who join forces to close out the Mainstage on Saturday Night. Hardwell rounds out the group and features on Sunday evening. We’ve highlighted a few for you below.
Don Diablo, who continues to push new boundaries with his own music and his label Hexagon, graces the Mainstage of Ultra Music Festival [check out last year's set from the Worldwide Stage] for the first time on Friday at 4:15. One of the biggest, if not the biggest, innovators in the 'future house' genre, Don’s tracks have dominated 1001Tracklists over the past year. From “Tonight” to “Cutting Shapes” to “Switch” to his edit of Zonderling’s “Tunnel Vision,” he continues to raise the bar with each production. His live shows contain many special edits, mashups, and unreleased tracks that you can’t hear anywhere else, making his first Ultra Miami Mainstage set Friday at 4:15 a can’t miss.
Axwell /\ Ingrosso return to the Ultra Miami Mainstage after a one year hiatus and boasting a plethora of hit productions from the last year. Axwell boasts two of the most artist supported tracks of 2016 in “Barricade” and his cut of Michael Feiner’s “Mantra,” while Ingrosso’s “Dark River” was also one of the biggest tracks of the year and dominated festival stages across the world. It was here at Ultra Miami in 2015 [tracklist] where the guys debuted their hit track “Dream Bigger,” and we can hardly wait and see what new music they have incoming!
Hardwell has worked tirelessly over the last seven years to bring himself and his label Revealed Recordings to the forefront of electronic dance music. He has become a staple of the Ultra family, and continually delivers heartstopping sets to fans at Ultra events across the globe. In our recent story he shared his thoughts and excitement with the Ultra crowd stating, “I really like playing Ultra because of the vibe. The crowd is really educated and everyone is open for new music. I’m always preparing new music and mashups for Ultra, and Miami is an important kick-off to the season, so expect a lot of new music this year!” Hardwell takes over the Mainstage Sunday at 6:45.
Some Notable Producers Making Their First or Second Appearance At Ultra
Quintino, who finished #12 in our 2016 Top 100 Producer rankings, will make his second Ultra appearance and first since 2013, Sunday on the UMF Radio stage. He continually releases quality productions that pick up loads of artist support with recent standout productions including his original tracks “Underground” and “Carnival,” his Hardwell collab “Baladig,” his collab “Can’t Fight It” with Cheat Codes, and his remix of Major Lazer’s track “Light It Up.” With such a great catalogue of his own music to choose from, his set at 5:00 on Sunday at the UMF Radio stage deserves your attention.
Appearing at Ultra Music Festival for the first time, D.O.D will rightfully have the chance to drop his tracks on the biggest stage. His music is constantly played by the biggest names in the industry, but not just on the radio – his tracks are staples in sets of Alesso, Axwell /\ Ingrosso, and Zedd. His biggest tracks of last year, his original track “Zipper” and his Jewelz & Sparks collab “Hoe,” have been nicely followed up this year with D.O.D’s newest track “Sixes” released on Axtone and all over our charts. He also has a new track signed to Size Records, and his future jack movement is sure to get you dancing. You can find him on the UMF Radio stage at 4:00 on Sunday.
Just like the guys above, NGHTMRE has carried forward the momentum from his hit productions into a deserved first Ultra appearance. After really announcing himself onto the scene with his hit original “Street,” he’s been a part of many star studded and massively successful collabs, including “Need You” with Dillon Francis and “Feel Your Love” with Flux Pavillion. In addition, he’s found great chemistry with the guys from Slander, and they’ve continually released quality productions which has led to their sustained touring together and now a new radio show. The energy NGHTMRE brings to his live show is up their with the best and is a set you can’t miss on Sunday from 7-8 on the Ultra Worldwide stage.
